What is an alcohol passport?

The alcohol passport is a certificate issued by the educational institution in the field of nutrition that a person has mastered the regulations and instructions regarding the serving of alcoholic beverages. The certificate is issued to a person who has satisfactorily completed the alcohol passport test.

Who needs an alcohol passport?

The alcohol passport is required if the person works as the responsible person of a place serving alcohol or as their substitute.

An alcohol passport is not required if you have received a training or completed a degree that contains the corresponding information, such as a basic, professional or specialized degree in the hotel and restaurant industry or a university of applied sciences degree in the tourism and catering industry.

 

What kind of test is the alcohol passport test?

The alcohol passport test is based on Valvira’s Alcoholic Beverages dispensing instructions (pdf).

The test has at least 30 questions. The type of questions is mainly either true/false questions or multiple choice questions. The more detailed content of the test varies. You pass the test when you get at least 80% of the maximum score.

The questions deal with the provisions of the Alcohol Act, prohibitions on serving, supervision and orderliness that is the responsibility of the staff, serving areas and serving times.

 

Can I complete the alcohol passport test online?

The alcohol passport tests are always organized in a controlled environment, so it cannot be completed online. The Ava-akatemia alcohol passport test is organized in Herttoniemi, Helsinki.

Upon request, we also organize trainings and tests for groups at workplaces and other locations.

 

How much does the alcohol passport cost?

The price of a alcohol passport is 53 euros. The retest price for a previously completed test at Ava-akatemia that did not pass is 43 euros.

The price of the alcohol passport training is 55 euros.

 

Is the alcohol passport training mandatory?

It is not. You can also study the material independently. However, training is an effective way to prepare for the test. Ava-akatemia organizes trainings for the alcohol passport test, which can be attended remotely.

 

Can I serve alcohol without an alcohol passport?

Yes, but a serving pass is required if you act as the manager responsible for the serving place or as a substitute.

 

Can I get the alcohol passport under the age of 18?

There is no age limit for obtaining an alcohol passport. However, a person under the age of 18 is not allowed to act as the responsible worker in a place that is serving alcohol. A person over the age of 16 may only serve alcoholic beverages under the direct supervision of a responsible worker or other adult person assigned to the task.

 

What do you need to bring to the test?

Remember to bring your official ID! You can get everything else you need from the test organizer. Those taking the test must prove their identity with an official, photo and valid ID, such as a passport, driver’s license, moped card or photo ID card.

 

When will I receive the alcohol passport?

After the approved test result, the alcohol passport certificate will be sent to the given email address within a week.

 

How long is the alcohol passport valid for?

The alcohol passport is valid until further notice.
